Rivers since time immemorial have been the main
sources of water around which civilisation bloomed.
Man learnt to harness the bountiful rivers not only
for agriculture but for drinking and washing, navigation
etc. In addition to the evolution culture trade
and commerce of a civilization evolved around the
water systems.
Our ancestors therefore reverred rivers as sacred
and
worshipped them as goddesses. Our country is blessed
with bountyful rivers, to name a few-Ganga, Sindhu,
Narmada, Godavari, Krishna, Kaveri. The Sindhu river
from whom our nation inherited its great civilization
"Hindu" and the river Nile around which
a great nation Egypt evolved are but a few examples.
Rivers are the lifeline of civilization. The River
Krishna is the life line of the Northern Karnataka.
